As promised, Red Menace is back with more insights from the technology we saw at the

Again, this is not a promotional piece for any Vendor, but rather a highlight of interesting technology and how it may be adapted to the wonderful world of NDT!

Last week, we highlighted the multi-method collaborative robot from LoneStar Innovations. This week, we’re talking about the impressive laser systems from KEYENCE.

On demo was their VR-6000, a system capable of taking precise measurements and generating 3D images of parts with complex geometry. Photo below!

While this isn’t strictly NDT equipment, any Ultrasonic inspector knows the challenge: you’re handed a part with tricky geometry and told to “find a way” to test it. A tool like this could be a game-changer for designing scan plans—especially when paired with software like BeamTool. Prints and 2D drawings can only get you so far, and in this industry, safety is never optional.

KEYENCE also designs weld shape profilers on their website. Nothing replaces a skilled VT inspector or CWI, but having a tool that can quickly flag potential weld issues—like excessive width or insufficient height—would save significant time and headaches.

Seeing technology as it develops gets me excited for more, as NDT continues to advance as an industry!

If this technology sparks your interest, you can learn more at keyence.com or visit their LinkedIn page: https://lnkd.in/dYXMgBdz

Stay tuned—over the coming weeks, we’ll share more of the cutting-edge NDT tech we discovered at the event.
